We're thrilled to announce that the featured guest pipe band for the 2010 Portland Highland Games will be the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, the current reigning world champion pipe band.
Hailing from Burnaby, Canada, the SFU band won the worlds in 2008 and 2009 - marking their fifth and sixth world championships.
SFU will compete at the Portland Highland Games - and lead the end-of-day massed bands - just a few weeks before heading to Scotland to defend their title.
Make no mistake, this is one pipe band you won't want to miss.
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is a grade one pipe band affiliated with Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. The band has consistently placed in the top three in world competition since the early ‘90s and has won the Grade One World Pipe Band Championships six times: 1995, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2008, and 2009. SFUPB is one of only three bands located outside of the United Kingdom that have won a World Pipe Band Championship. In addition, the band has placed second eight times, finishing in the top two in the world in 14 of its 25 years.
Here's some of SFU's 2008 world championship performance. (Of course, YouTube doesn't do 'em justice!)
