The fun and zanny, Portland Highland Games' Kilted Mile is a fan favorite, as runners kick-off the start of the Games by running the one-mile race, you guessed it, in KILTS! All skill levels welcome, so join us this year for one of the most interactive events at the Games! PLUS, kilts are provided if you need one, so NO excuses!
The Kilted Mile dates back to the reign of King Malcom III who ruled Scotland during the
11th century. At that time the foot race started at Braemar Castle and finished at the
grim Creag Choinnick. The Kilted Mile has been an event at the Portland Highland Games since 1991. This year will mark the 20th Portland Highland Games Kilted Mile.
Runners in the Kilted Mile compete in age/gender specific categories. The fastest overall runner is awarded 2 perpetual awards: The Memorial Sword and the George Kelly Memorial Award. The top runners from each category also receive awards. All runners receive a commemorative t-shirt.
